[Job] Two Student Research Assistants at NUS CIL

The NUS Centre for International Law is looking for two Student Research Assistants for a multi-disciplinary research project on data, law, policy, science and the protection and management of the marine environment.

These positions are created for an 18-months long feasibility study for the development of a Knowledge Organisation System of Marine Environmental data for Southeast Asia (KOSMESEA) to support implementation of marine environmental law and policy. This multi- disciplinary project brings together expertise in marine law and policy, marine sciences and informatics including database systems and technology.


Position 1. Part-Time Student Research Assistant (Marine Science)
The purpose of this part-time (50%) position is to contribute to the following project components:

  • Inventory of databases, data repositories and other specialized platforms for regional data;
  • Analysis of overlaps and gaps with respect to selected taxa and possible alternative sources (including data extraction from published literature);
  • Assistance in collection and organization of unrecorded reports and documents;
  • Assistance in the organization of consultation of biodiversity database coordinators and of a regional workshop.

This is a 6-month renewable position. Candidates should have an undergraduate degree in marine biology and/or marine ecology. They must also demonstrate the ability to work independently while being part of and receiving guidance from a multi-disciplinary team. Send CV and statement of interest to younalyons@nus.edu.sg.


Position 2. Part-Time Student Research Assistant (IT)

The purpose of this part-time (50%) position is to contribute to the following project components:

  • Database architecture research, review and analyses.
  • Proposal for a database architecture for KOSMESEA.

This is a 6-month renewable position. Candidates should have an undergraduate degree but not necessarily in Information Technology (IT). They must have a strong understanding of IT and database architectures (e.g. data warehousing, data virtualization, etc). They must also demonstrate the ability to work independently while being part of and receiving guidance from a multi-disciplinary team. Send CV and statement of interest to hengkek@nus.edu.sg.
